Day 14 Llyn Peninsula
We wake covered in a thick blanket of misty cloud. The forecast says it will burn off at midday. We decide to walk up nearby Gyrn Goch, which towers over us. It starts promisingly with signposts, bridges and stiles but soon peters out in a mass of bracken and brambles. It’s part of the North Wales Pilgrims’ Way, but obviously there aren’t enough pilgrims these days to keep the undergrowth at bay.
So back to Ludwig to eat our meagre rations packed lunch and we then off to Criccieth on the South of the peninsula by bike. We cycle up and through the thick mist into hot sunshine and arrive at Criccieth about an hour and a half later. We sit on the beach for a while, barnacle encrusted rocks to lean on, and are not tempted to swim as it doesn’t look that inviting under the cloud. A circuitous rural route back and we go straight into the sea from the van and then shower, have tea, then wine and crisps and the best sunset so far.
