Day 5: Monday 7 September - to Cairfai Farm, St. David’s

Last evening was still and sunny and we remember fondly the lovely sunset as we wake to grey clouds and rain. It looks pretty set in but we decide we need some fresh air so walk to Martin’s Haven lookout but are not able to see very much! We manage to get pretty soaked through though. Coffee in the van while the windows mist up and we contemplate our departure. It begins to clear enough for us to load up the bikes and we head off soon after 11.30. We decide to go via Haverfordwest to stock up with provisions (tins from M&S mainly!) where we have to queue politely at 2m but not wear face masks. A scenic prawn sandwich in the car park before stopping at Halfords for mats to protect the foot wells in the front of the van from the impending muddy conditions. We drive along the coast at Newgale, a vast swathe of beach sadly less inviting today. We arrive at Cairfai Farm Campsite and find our allocated pitch (19) near the facilities again but with a good view of the coast, we think. A bit of manoeuvring to optimise levels and views and to clear the dog poo from our pitch: lovely! We venture down to Cairfai Beach which is only a few hundred metres from the site. Tea and warm showers. Not the most exciting of days, we have been so spoiled with glorious conditions so far. But we are optimistic that it will improve. We remember a year ago today we celebrated Izzie and Luke’s wonderful wedding day. And what a year it has been....
