Day 7: Wednesday 9 September: Newgale to Cairfai

We’re disappointed to wake to sea mist again and I begin to doubt my forecast. A fairly leisurely start and in fact by 10am it is brightening up and our sea view begins to emerge. We revisit the Cathedral before getting the T11 bus to Newgale, fairly packed with walkers wearing masks and social distancing on alternate seats. The sky is blue by the time we arrive at Newgale sands: a vast swathe of sand with a pebble flood defence between the sand and the campsite across the road. We start our walk westwards relishing the clear views and crystal waters. More walkers on this bit and no seals or porpoises today. Lunch on the headland above Solva before a takeaway coffee in the small harbour. Back to the campsite and rinse out a few pairs of socks before a brief bask on the beach, and an even briefer dip in the sea. We can really enjoy the views from our van this evening, with locally produced Caerphilly cheese and raw milk from the farm.
